Aberdour Shinty Club are delighted to be the latest club to partner with Sport Chaplaincy Scotland to provide our first ever Chaplain.
On Thursday evening Mark Fleming from Sports Chaplaincy Scotland attended a Pre season training session to introduce himself and welcome the Club to the programme.
Sports Chaplaincy is in over 110 Scottish football clubs, but has only recently been introduced to shinty with around 12 other clubs appointing a chaplain.
A chaplain provides a confidential space to support players and their families with any issues they may be having off the pitch.
Aberdour want to look after our players physically, but to support them mentally and emotionally.
Our new Chaplain, Andy Murray (no not that one), comes with many years experience of supporting families through his work as a social worker and more recently working with a family support charity. We will be sharing Andy’s number with players and we would encourage anyone to get in touch with Andy if you want to chat over a particular issue or just want to have a coffee and a chat. Anything discussed with the chaplain is confidential.
Andy will attend senior training sessions and is already known well by players as both sons play in the squads.
This regular presence/ contact is a very important aspect of the role, by being visible and available to build relationships.
The Club welcomes Andy to the team and fully support the value of being part of the programme.
Please speak to any of the coaches for more information and they can put you in touch with Andy.
