Mark Fleming – Scottish Director and Official Supplier of Mental Health Training to Sports Chaplaincy UK

Mark Fleming is Scottish Director and Official Supplier of Mental Health Training to Sports Chaplaincy UK. Mark is a fully qualified NHS Scotland trainer in Mental Health First Aid. He is an official supplier of this training to NHS Scotland, the SPFL Trust and Scottish Rugby Union. He has delivered the course to many support staff (including chaplains) throughout Scottish sport and further afield, equipping them to recognise the signs and symptoms of poor mental health among all those connected to a club and to know what steps to take in order to provide initial help and be a bridge to appropriate professional help.

“The coursed gave more insight into what people with depression, anxiety and psychosis are going through. I feel the language to use to show you understand it is real for them will be helpful in calls. Mark was very knowledgeable and welcomed questions. Trainer tailored examples to our type of work interactions which was very helpful.“ Elaine Adam, Health Information Manager, NHS24.

“The mental health first aid course was stimulating and enjoyable – and what I learned over the two days has already proven incredibly useful at work and at home. I have no doubt its effectiveness can be attributed to the enthusiasm and knowledge of the trainer, who led the course in a sensitive yet light-hearted manner. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the mental health first aid course to others.” David Hamilton, Strategic Football Lead, Scottish Government

“I found the course very informative and interesting. It has definitely improved my mental health awareness and skills to support and improve my services on our projects at Celtic FC Foundation. I now also have a deeper understanding of Mental Health at a personal level through my own experience in relatives and friends with mental health illness.” Gillian Kirk, Health & Fitness Coach/Coordinator, Celtic FC Foundation

“There is more to caring for footballers than sorting out a knee injury or planning a coaching session, the mental well being of a player is as important as being able to ping a 40 yard pass! The training is excellent, interactive and engaging” Dr Jim Moxon, Liverpool FC Academy Doctor
